Day 2 of Cybernet Expo – Recap

After an awesome 1920’s style party complete with gambling, beer for the ladies and whiskey for the gents, we went to bed. The next day was filled with seminars, most of which I missed as they pertain to billing and more of the adult industry than I belong in as someone who writes a romance story.

Yet the great thing about this event isn’t just the fantastic education that YNOT Network puts behind the longest running trade show in the Adult market, but the opportunities to meet and network outside of organized events such as the Alcatraz speed networking event. I was blessed to be able to spend a great deal of time with Ralph Greco, fellow writer for Renaissance E-books as well as Oceania of Radio Dentata. It gave me a chance to bond with a new author and develop a closer bond with Oceania, whom has been a mentor of sorts for me over the length of my career.

During trade shows there tends to be little downtime and when it is available, it’s usually spent trying to catch up on sleep. In this case I was able to pick Oceania’s brain a little about her career as how it compared to mine. One of the observations I’ve made is that it seems she’s just now coming into the prime of her career as am I. Both of us are having successes on different levels as well as coming together for things like WriteSEX and the radio station. I wondered if it took her ten years and did that seem to be the price paid for us deciding we wanted to be entrepreneurs in our chosen field or if we had just made plenty of new mistakes.

There is a learning curve in any industry and for writers it doesn’t have to be ten years. With the invention of e-books, authors can get instant publication through reputable e-book houses such as Renaissance E-books or Total E-bound. There are others of course but my point stands. Yet the learning curve for success defined by the usual terms of wealth and name branding still remains a question.

My point is that it takes us time to learn about the curves in our businesses. Cybernet Expo provided us plenty of applicable education across the board. If you’re in porno, publishing or peddling non adult retail, you’re in sales. The techniques and tactics that worked forty years ago, still apply today. According to Steve Lightspeed in his keynote address, we should strive to be honest, partner with others for success and think ahead about keeping customers using honest business practices and tactics.
